Sad Accident

The death of Miss Mary McCarey occurred on Sunday night and the funeral was to have taken place on Monday afternoon, but was stopped by persons who considered that an inquest should be held.

It was stated that she had taken certain drugs and that purpursal [sic] convulsion caused her death.

Corner Hayes, of Simcoe, held an inquest on Monday afternoon into the cause of death of Mary McCarey and her new born child.

After hearing the evidence of three witnesses, the inquest was adjourned and a post mortem held on Monday evening. The inquest will be resumed again on Monday next.

Inquest Held

County Crown Attorney Ansley and Coroner Hayes of Simcoe, conducted the inquest into the death of Mary McCarey at the Town Hall on Monday evening.

The evidence of nearly a dozen witnesses was heard and on many points did their evidence conflict.

The girl's mother states that she took no medicine for three weeks previous to her death and the evidence of Drs. Snider and Duncombe, who held the post mortem, would seem to uphold this story as no signs of the poisonous medicine were found at the post mortem.

The jury brought in a verdict of death from convulsions, but could not say whether they were caused from the effects of the medicine or not.
