Mrs. E. P. Johnson buried at Simcoe

Simcoe, Sept. 19. -- Helen Miller Livingstone, widow of Eden P. Johnson, Esq., of Ottawa, died in the Capital City on Wednesday in her 75th year after two years' illness.

The deceased was the youngest member of the family of the late Rev. Martin W. Livingstone, who became pastor of St. Paul's Presbyterian church* here in 1858, and died in 1887, aged 87 years.

The late W. P. Innes was a brother-in-law and Martin W. Livingstone of Tillsonburg and John W. Livingstone of West Branch, Mich., are surviving brothers.

Three step-children survive, Chancy Johnson, manager of the St. Clair avenue, Toronto, branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce, and Misses Helen and Edith at home.

The late Judge Livingstone was a brother, and the wife of the late Sheriff Jackson of Simcoe a sister.

In the death of Mrs. Johnson one more passes of the stock of the old families that put the stamp of civilization and British ideals in this country.

Of her father it is said that "he preached regularly at Simcoe in the morning and at Lynedoch and Windham alternatively in the afternoon. He also held a monthly service at Vittoria and occassional services at Dover and Silver Hill." In 17 years he failed four times to meet his appointment in Lynedoch, twice through deaths in the family, once from impassable roads and once from a violent storm.

Mrs. Johnson last visited the scenes of childhood and early life almost two years ago and was suddenly stricken shortly after reaching home. During her long illness Mrs. Johnson was nursed at the private hospital of Dr. Caven.

The remains are being brought to Simcoe for interment on Friday afternoon at Oakwood Cemetery.

* [Compiler's Comment: Rev. Livingstone was actually the pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Simcoe. He retired to make way for a younger minister when the congregations of St. Andrews and St. Paul's merged. See his obituary]
