Samuel Leighfield

The death of Samuel Leighfield occurred on Thursday afternoon at his home, 179 Owen Street, Simcoe, in his 65th year. Mr. Leighfield suffered a stroke about two weeks ago, from which he failed to recover.

A native of North Walsingham, deceased was a son of the late William Leighfield and Elizabeth Wark. A farmer practically all his life, he resided in North Walsingham for many years, later moving to the Teeterville district and thence to Delhi, coming to Simcoe about one and a half years ago. Well known throughout the county, deceased was a member of the United Church.

Besides his wife, formerly Sarah Clyne, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Hicks of Bloomsburg and Miss Marjorie Leighfield at home, four brothers, William of Port Rowan, John of Nebraska, George of Simcoe, and Alex of Langton, and four sisters, Mrs. Arnott Contryman [sic] and Mrs. C. D. Forster of Pt. Rowan, Mrs. Harry Allen of Bowmanville, and Mrs. Charles Fowler of Glen Meyer.

The funeral was held from the Walsh Funeral Home on Saturday at 2.30 o'clock. Rev. H. W. Watts of the Cheapside United Church was in charge of the service. Interment was made in Delhi Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Clarence Aspden, Steve Burroughs, Percy Grant, P. J. McMillen, Wallace Lister and Robert Kernaghan. Among the lovely floral tributes were tokens from the neighbors on Owen and Patterson Streets.
