A dastardly attempt to burn the residence of Isaac Kitchen, Esq., was made early last Wednesday morning.

About half past one, as Ernest Culver was returning home from his work in Brown's mill, he discovered that Mr. Kitchen's residence was on fire.

He aroused Mr. Davis, who lives opposite and they put the first out.

The window casing and the frame of a door were blazing up. It was found that coal oil and a quantity of waste had been placed inside of a window and set on fire.

Mr. Kitchen and his family were in sound sleep, and had not the fire been discovered they might had been burned to death.

The numerous fires that have occurred in that part of the town show that a demon is at large, and every effort should be made to bring him to justice. -- Simcoe Canadian
