The Late Levi Kern

It was with a feeling of sadness that the people of Forestville learned that one of their oldest inhabitants, Mr. Levi Kern, had passed peacefully away on Sunday morning January 9th at the age of 87.

Mr. Kern had always lived in the neighborhood of Forestville. He was the son of Christopher Kern and the grandson of John Kern, who in the year 1800, settled on the farm still owned by the family.

Mr. Kern was married to Roxilla Cook, who predeceased him some twenty years ago. Since that time he has made his home with his daughter Mrs. L. S. Pegg.

Some fourteen years ago Mr. Kern began to be bothered with lack of memory and since then has been becoming gradually worse although to some extent retaining his bodily vigor.

Mr. Kern was a man of unassuming manners. He was held in high esteem by all his acquaintances, being generous, upright, thrifty, and honorable in business.

He was a member of the Forestville Baptist Church from the time he was nineteen, and was a Deacon for many years. His whole christian life was most consistent and exemplary.

He leaves two daughters to mourn the loss of an affectionate father, Mrs. L. S. Pegg of Forestville, and Mrs. Alex Dunn, Vancouver, B.C.

The relatives have the sincere sympathy of this neighborhood. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Pollock.
