The Late Sheriff Jackson

On Saturday morning, Joseph Jackson Esq., Sheriff of the County of Norfolk, died at his residence, West street.

He was born in the township of Houghton to 1831 and for many years was one of the prominent lumbermen of this district carrying on an extensive business.

In 1883 [sic] he was elected to the House of Commons in the Liberal interests and was defeated by Colonel Tisdale in 1887. 

Mr. Jackson was appointed Sheriff of Norfolk County in 1892 upon the death of Mr. Edmond Deedes, the then Sheriff. 

Some years ago Mr. Jackson was stricken with paralysis and has since been an invalid. Two [weeks] weeks ago he suffered from another seizure and gradually failed until death came on Saturday morning. 

Mr. Jackson is survived by two sons, W. Lundy Jackson of Duluth, and Clarence Jackson of Chicago, and one daughter, Mrs. J. B. Jackson.

The funeral on Monday was largely attended.  Among those present from a distance being W. W. Livingstone of Tillsonburg, a brother-in-law of the deceased, and Messrs. John Hanson, H. Ellis and John L. Buck of Port Rowan.
