The Late Mrs. Robert Hodgson

Death claimed last Wednesday, February 12th, Jane Maria Newell, widow of Mr. Robert Hodgson, after several weeks' serious illness, in her 78th year. Deceased was the eldest daughter of Stephen and Martha Newell, and was born in Simcoe and lived here all her long life, respected by all. A kind and loving neighbor, she was very good to the sick and sorrowing and a source of ready assistance for the needy.

Her failure in health dates from the time of her husband's death some four years ago, and large inroads on her strength had been made during the past four years, when death deprived her of two children and a beloved son-in-law: Mrs. Young of British Columbia,
Edward L. Hodgson
of Simcoe, and Wm. G. Marshall of Montreal.
Her decay was gradual and sure, and some time before the end her daughters, Mrs. Ostendorf of Blue Island, Ill., and Mrs. Wm. Marshall with her two daughters, Misses Margaret and Jean, of Montreal, were sent for, arriving shortly before the end.

Mrs. Hodgson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ostendorf,
Mrs. Marshall, and Miss Lizzie Hodgson living at home.
Two brothers are also living, John Newell, of Saginaw, Mich., and
P. P. Newell , Tillsonburg. Her only surviving sister is Mrs. C. T. Baldwin, Burlington, Iowa. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. John Newell, was present at the funeral, which was held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, February 14, from her late residence, Talbot street.
Rev. Dr. Benson conducted the obsequies. Mrs. Hodgson always was a faithful Christian and a warm adherent of the Methodist denomination. The pallbearers were Messrs. H. S. Falls,
George Luscombe, Richard Edmonds, George Mitson, Charles Cross and W. P. Price. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
