James C. Hammond

The death of James C. Hammond well-known Charlotteville resident, in his 70th year took place on Tuesday, 20 Oct 1931 after a lingering illness. The son of Miles Hammond, a pioneer resident, he was born and always lived on the 
old family homestead. 

Although he did not take an active part in public affairs he was interested in the development of the community and was held in highest respect by a wide circle of friends.

Besides his widow, he leaves six children: Charles of South Walsingham, 
Ernest of St. Williams, 
Bert at home, 
Mrs. Fred Haskett of St. Williams, 
Mrs. Leonard Colwell of Walsh and 
Mrs. Robert Martin of Tillsonburg. 
Two sisters also survive: 
Mrs. Jane Reynolds of Middleton, Mich., 
and Mrs. G. Parsons of Alden, Mich.

The funeral service is being conducted at the 
house on Thursday afternoon by the pastor of 
St. Williams United Church of which deceased 
was a member, with interment at Johnson's Cemetery, St. Williams.

Mrs. Esther Hammond

St. Williams: The funeral of Mrs. Esther Hammond who passed away on Saturday in Norfolk General Hospital after a fall in her home, was conducted from the Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday at two o'clock. Interment was in the Johnson Cemetery, St. Williams.

Mrs. Hammond, who was in her 83rd year, was the daughter of David Price and Lydia King. One of a family of seven, she received her education at Unger's School. She married James Hammond in 1891 and to this union was born six children. After their marriage they resided on the 4th concession of Charlotteville. Mrs. Hammond moved to St. Williams several years ago. She was a member of the United Church, Ladies' Aid and Women's Institute. Later in life she joined the Jehovah Witnesses.

She leaves four children, Mrs. Fred Heskett (Annie) and Bert Hammond of St. Williams, 
Mrs. Robert Martin (Nellie) of Tillsonburgh [sic] and Mrs. Leonard Colwell (Gertie) of Walsh. Two sons, Charles and Ernest, passed away several years ago. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lorne Stackhouse (Anne), and two brothers, Arthur Price and Frank Price of
St. Williams. Two brothers and a sister passed away several years ago. There are 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
