Mrs. S. Johnson dies in 97th year

One of Norfolk County's oldest and best-known residents, Sarah Sophrona Griffin, widow of Jeremiah Z. Johnson, passed away yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur F. Osborn, No. 3 Highway East, following a lengthy illness. She was in her 97th year.

Born at Lynedoch, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Robert Griffin and Margaret Johnston. She had resided in Charlotteville and Woodhouse Townships all her life and was well-known throughout the district where she had many friends.

She was married in 1871 at Forestville Baptist Church to Mr. Johnson, who predeceased her 30 years ago. 

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Baptist Church in Simcoe. She had resided with her daughter for a number of years and was the last surviving member of her family.

She leaves a son, Walter Johnson of Woodhouse, 
and three daughters, Mrs. Ida Cooper of St. Thomas, 
Mrs. Herbert Osborn of Medina, N.Y., and Mrs. Arthur F. Osborn of Woodhouse, also 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson is resting at the Walsh Funeral Home, where service will be held on Saturday at 3.30 o'clock. Rev. H. C. Newcombe, former pastor of First Baptist Church, will have charge of the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
