Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Ewing
married Fifty
Years

Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Ewing celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday at their home at Lutesville, with their large family of children, grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

They were married on 1 Jun 1876 by Rev. J. E. Vining, at the parsonage at Burtch's Corners, Brant County, and born to them were eight children:
Mrs. Chas. Olmstead of Waterford, Mrs. H. R. Barber of St. Catharines,
D. W. Ewing of Townsend, Mrs. Geo. Flynn of Toronto,
Mrs. Frank Beemer of Scotland, Mrs. Harry Martin of Townsend,
Russell Ewing of Townsend, and Margaret Emily, who died at 13 years of age.
There are 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Andrew Slaght is the only one living who attended the wedding fifty years ago.

Mrs. Ewing is a daughter of the late David Slaght and was born on the farm on which she now resides.

Mr. Ewing was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on 22 May 1851. He came to Canada with his parents in 1857. They settled in Simcoe, where he attended school in the back part of the old mud church which stood on site of Atkinson Marble Works. His teacher was Miss O'Carr. The family moved to Port Dover and later Vittoria.

In 1871 he came to Lutesville where he learned the trade of carriage painter and trimmer with the late Wm. Lutes. After following this occupation for a number of years he went back to tilling the soil on the property he now occupies.

Mr. Ewing served in all capacities on the Townsend Council for seventeen years, was on the Townsend Agricultural Society Board for 35 years, several in the capacity of secretary. He also was trustee for nine years and secretary-treasurer for eleven years of S. S. 8, Townsend, where Mrs. Ewing attended as did their eight children.

The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion in yellow and white. Yellow tulips adorned the tables. The bride of fifty years ago cut the cake with a knife which belonged to her grandmother.

Guests present were as follows: --
Rev. J. B. Moore and wife of Waterford, Rev. A. J. Loveday and wife of Boston,
W. H. Slaght and wife of Buffalo, Russell Slaght and wife of Brantford,

Mr. Butler, photographer, of Simcoe, took several pictures during the afternoon, including the whole party, the bride and groom, the family, and most interesting of all, four generations.
