The Late Joseph Ellis

Joseph Ellis died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. B. Linn, at Aberdeen, Wash,. U.S.A., on December 27, at the age of 81 years.

The remains were brought to Port Rowan for burial, arriving on Monday, accompanied by Mrs. Linn.

Mr. Ellis was a son of the late Jas. Ellis, one of the first settlers of that district. He was born on the homestead which at one time contained nearly all of the land on which the village is built.

He married Miss Sarah E. Anderson, whose demise took place about four years ago. After his marriage he settled on his farm near the G.T.R. station and continued that occupation nearly all of his active life.

About three years ago he expressed a desire to visit his daughter in Aberdeen, where he continued until his death, which was caused by pneumonia.

He is survived by one brother, Aaron, of Leamington; and one sister, Mrs. John Liger, (Elizabeth), of San Diego; also three sons and two daughters live to mourn his loss. They are: Walter of Port Rowan; Russell of San Diego, Cal.; and Robert of Aberdeen; Mrs. S. B. Linn (Annie) of Aberdeen; and Mrs. H. H. Parker (Leota) of Port Rowan.

The deceased was a man of the utmost integrity and was esteemed as one of our most honored citizens.

The funeral was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Parker on Wednesday, when a large number assembled to pay their last respects to the departed.

The remains were taken to the Port Royal cemetery, and there interred beside the last resting place of his wife, his partner in life for so many years. The obsequies were conducted by Rev. D. J. Rowland, assisted by Miss Templeton-Armstrong, by request of the deceased.
