Simcoe Couple 50 Years Wed

Natives of Norfolk and residents of Simcoe for the past six years, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Hilliker, 86 Union Street, will observe their golden wedding anniversary on Monday.

The occasion will be marked by a family dinner on Sunday and a reception on Monday when they will be at home to their friends and neighbours.

Born in Delhi, Mr. Hilliker, who is 80 year of age, is a son of the late Henry C. Hilliker and Mary Hussey. He is the last surviving member of a family of five children. He received his education in Delhi and as a young man entered the general store business in Quebec.

Mrs. Hilliker, who is also 80, was formerly Annie Crysler, a daughter of the late Elkanah Crysler and Frances Byrnes of Lynedoch. 

She received her education in Lynedoch after which she entered in training as a nurse at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, being a member of the first graduating class in 1894. 

She was one of nine children and still living are two brothers and one sister, Charles Crysler of Lillooet, B.C., G. S. Crysler of Rouletta, Sask., and Mrs. Emma Riley of Port Dover.

They were married in Ottawa on 17 Nov 1897 by Rev. William Palmer and Rev. Mr. Frith. Following their marriage they resided in Dalesville, Quebec, for four years where Mr. Hilliker operated a general store.

They then moved to Renfew for four years where he also operated a general store. In 1906 they move to Minburn, Alta., and four years later to Viking, Alta., were Mr. Hilliker operated a general store for a total of 33 years in the two places.

Retiring six years ago, they returned to Norfolk and took up residence in Simcoe. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hilliker are members of First Baptist Church the former being a deacon and member of the Board of managers while the latter is a member of the South Group of the Ladies' Aid and the Women's Mission Circle. 

Mr. Hilliker is also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Canadian Order of Foresters and the Simcoe Lawn Bowling Club. For 11 years while residing in Vilking, Mrs. Hilliker was president of the Women's Institute there.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Hilliker continue to enjoy excellent health. They have one son, Crysler Hilliker of Detroit.
