Mrs. Annie Cocks Clark

There passed away in Los Angeles California, on January 21st, one well known to many friends and relatives in Norfolk County in the person of Mrs. Annie Cocks Clark.

Mrs. Clark was the daughter of the late Rev. Henry Cocks and Jennie Shearer Cox and was born in Georgetown 54 years ago.

Her mother was a daughter of the late David Shearer of Vittoria and a sister of the late William Shearer of Villa Nova.

Mrs. Clark was the wife of Theron Clark, registrar of the University of Southern California at Los Angeles to whom she was married in Kansas City where her parents then resided.

For some years Mr. and Mrs. Clark resided in Province R.I., moving to California in 1924.

Mrs. Clark held an A.M. degree from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. degree from Brown University and was a teacher in Holby College for young women until last August when she was taken ill, though not seriously and it was expected she would recover.

She was associated in Sociological and church work, being an active member of Temple Baptist church in Los Angeles where Mr. Clark was a deacon.

Besides her husband she leaves her mother, Mrs. Jennie Cocks, two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Williams and Edna A. Cocks. The latter two will be remembered as attending Waterford High School when they resided with their uncle, Mr. William Shearer of Villa Nova.

Relatives in this vicinity who regret to know of her early demise, are Miss Kate Beemer and Mr. Frank Shearer of Vittoria, Mrs. Roy Beemer, Miss Emma Beemer and Mrs. J. H. Stafford of Waterford, beside many friends.
