DEATH OF MR. CARPENTER

John B. Carpenter, Esq., one of the wealthiest and best known farmers of this Province, died at
his residence in the Township of Townsend, near this town, early on Monday morning.
The deceased had been a sufferer from Bright's disease for some time, but his death was sudden and unexpected.  He was in his 70th year.
His farm, upon which he resided, is known throughout this district as the Model Farm, and
has been frequently described by the daily press and agricultural journals of the Dominion.
The farm was the winner of the first gold medal given by the Agricultural and Arts Association.
His contributions to the various funds of the Methodist church, of which he has a member,
have for years been exceedingly liberal.
He is survived by a widow and a large family of
sons and daughters. His funeral will take place
this afternoon, from his late residence to
Oakwood Cemetery.

Rachel Priscilla Carpenter

The sad news was received on Tuesday, March 2nd, of the death of Rachel Priscilla Sterling, relict of the late John B. Carpenter, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. M. Orchard, of Toronto. Mrs. Carpenter had only been ill for a short time and her death comes as a surprise to her many friends in this neighborhood.

Mrs. Carpenter was born in the township of Saltfleet, Wentworth Co., in 1825, and was married to John Brock Carpenter in 1845. They settled in the township of Townsend, moving on the Model Farm, in 1852, where deceased lived until last year. Thus 64 years of her life were spent on the same farm. Mr. Carpenter died on the 18th of September, 1889, and both he and his wife were staunch Methodists. It will be remembered that Mrs. Carpenter's youngest son, William S. Carpenter, predeased her by only a few weeks.

Deceased is survived by five daughters, Mrs.
R. M. Orchard and Mrs. A. D. Ellis of Toronto,
Mrs. Wilkin of Othkosk, Wis.,
Mrs. Westover, of Mt. Morris, Mich., and
Mrs. D. K. Ferguson of Muskegon, Mich.,
and by two sons, Mr. E. C. Carpenter of Simcoe,
and Mr. Wellington Carpenter of Pt. Dover.
