Little Girl Burned to Death

Caldwell, Idaho, July 23 -- Reta Berry, the 7 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Berry, of 120 Walnut street, Boise, was fatally burned last night while visiting with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Gilbert, at their home four miles north of Notus.

The children were visiting with their grandparents. The boy, who is 10 years old, had been there for several days, but the girl had just come with her grandmother, who had just changed her dress so she could have a good time.

The boy had been cautioned by his mother before leaving home not to play with matches and his grandparents had also given him the same warning, but, boylike, he with his sister slipped away from the house and before the grandparents knew, they heard the screams of the girl and saw the fire. The accident happened about 100 yards from the house and by the time her grandfather reached her she was so badly burned that she died a few hours after.

The parents were immediately notified and arrived about noon, coming to Caldwell by train and driving from here to the ranch.

Mr. Berry is organizer for the Lincoln Annuity Union and had been in Nampa effecting an organization. No arrangements have as yet been made for the funeral, as the grief stricken parents cannot as yet realize their loss.

[Mr. Fred A. Berry is the third son of Mr. Edward Berry of Walsh, and nephew of the late Dr. J. N. Anderson.]
