The following is from a page 1 article in the 6 Sep 1917 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper. 

"KILLED IN ACTION"

Private Joseph Powell, young Englishman, adopted by Mr. Fred Marr when he was farming in Walpole. Had been with the family eight years. Came with them when they moved to Simcoe and worked in the Can Plant. Joined the [114]th Brock's Regiment.
