The following is based on an article on page 2 of the 18 Feb 1881 Norfolk Reformer. It reports several stories and is not an exact transcription.

Port Royal

J. W. Procunier, Esq., who resides on Lot 8 broken front, Walsingham, has a three year old colt that operates the pump in the yard, pumping water for itself and the rest of the stock in the yard. Mr. Procunier has noticed this remarkable action of his colt for more than a year now.

The widow of James DeWitt, who has just completed her 86th year, has busied herself during the past year at needle work, and succeeded in piecing a number of fancy quilts of 64 blocks in each quilt and 64 pieces in each block, making 4,096 in each quilt, all of beautiful design. Younger ladies might follow this elderly lady's industrious habit.

Last Saturday three ruffians who were somewhat intoxicated -- Rudell Newman, Walter Rockeyfellow and Henry Sanderson -- entered the house of a widowed lady, Mrs. Harman Ryckman. They ill treated the daughter and hired girl with indecent assault, knocking them down, breaking a chair, and injuring the sewing machine. The stove was kicked by the vagabonds literally to pieces. Mrs. R. is a lady of good reputation but somewhat indigent. Can not the law be vindicated in her case, and the society of these gentleman be dispensed with for a while?

On the same date, a party from Langton in a cutter, giving his name as Thompson overtook an elderly lady by the name of Brown and indecently assaulted her. She fortunately released herself and escaped to a neighboring house in a frantic condition. The party has not been heard of since.

On the same date, another party known as "Dad" Becker used indecent language towards two ladies residing near Dedrick's Creek, one of whom threw a butcher's knife at him, leaving him a very narrow escape for his life.

The Billiard parlor in Port Rowan is to be closed very soon; the proprietor having leased the Commercial Hotel in Toronto.
