After finishing the league in first place with an 11-2 record, the Cancos played J. B. Jackson's team for the league championship and the right to go on in OSA playoffs. The strange story of this championship battle was reported in three articles in the 27 Aug 1931 Simcoe Reformer.

The 3 Sep 1931 Simcoe Reformer reported "Cancos eliminated ... St. Catharines treated our own Cancos with short shrift to win the second game of the playdowns by a score of 19-9."
