George Pond Profile
by John Cardiff

Simcoe, Ontario native George E. Pond is an amateur historian, and the author of Milestones & Memories, the most popular book about the history of Simcoe ever published.
A past president of the Simcoe Lions Club, George is a director of the Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition, where his unparalleled collection of photos and profiles of local teams forms the backdrop of the Hall’s collection.

Simcoe’s Outstanding Citizen of 1989, George is a past president of the Long Point Bird Observatory, and past treasurer of Norfolk Naturalists. An enthusiastic bird watcher, he holds records for birds sighted, and money raised for Bird Studies of Canada.

A past president of the Simcoe & District Real Estate Board, and honorary life member of Norfolk County Fair, he is an award-winning photographer, who has produced and presented dozens of narrated, sound tracked, slide shows on everything from Norfolk’s history, to butterflies, to his trips abroad.

We have only summarized George's collection of photos and profiles of Norfolk's Sports Teams. His entire collection spans more than a century.

Were your ancestors or cousins athletically active in Norfolk? If so, their names and photos may well appear in George's collection.

(George's collection has been supplemented with articles and images found in local newspapers.)
