This is a photo of the students attending S.S. No. 8 Windham, the one-room elementary school house at LaSalette, in 1927. Researcher Paul Billo of Shakespeare, Ontario, the owner of this photo, emailed us the scan 2 Aug 2010.

Paul subsequently identified nine of the 34 students as members of his extended ancestral family, and provided a bit of biography for those he could.

On 2 Nov 2010 Lori Roloson emailed us a fax of the same photo complete with caption listing the students. The photo was hanging in Byers General Store in LaSalette and Lori borrowed it to send ud. She note there are some conflicts over who's who, when comparing this [caption] to those already identified on the website -- but this may help a bit. Lori also points out there are a number of individuals in the photo who still reside in and around the village.

On 4 Nov 2010
Bernie Byer emailed to say his list of names is from Tony Murphy of Delhi.

Our identifications should be considered tentative until confirmed via multiple sources. Generally speaking, the older the "last updated" date on each bio web page, the higher our confidence that the identification is correct.

At the time this photo was taken, Ontario elementary education consisted of grades 1 to 8.
Typically students would have started school at approximately age 5 and graduated eight years later, age 13, so the students in this photo would have been born between approximately 1914 and 1922.
