The following article was written in 1831 by Norfolk County Registrar Francis Leigh Walsh, and is completely transcribed here.

The original manuscript survives. It is one of The Walsh Papers in the Norfolk Historical Society Archives.  It was read to the Norfolk Historical Society in 1901 by Society president Judge Robb and subsequently published in the 2 May 1901 Simcoe Reformer (page 1).

This online transcription takes two liberties with the original text.

Most long sentences appear as separate paragraphs to increase readability. The original manuscript was divided into only three long paragraphs. This transcript reproduces each of those paragraphs on separate web pages.

The names of the teacher's pioneer employers and his students are reprinted here on separate lines for easier scanning. The original document lists these people in paragraph form.
