Home Sweet Home, 10 Dec 2001. Port Ryerse was a bustling little community on the north shore of Lake Erie at the height of Norfolk's 1860-70s lumber exporting era. For the first half of the 1900s Port Ryerse was primarily a hamlet of summer cottages. High real estate prices in the 1970s convinced many to convert these cottages to year around homes. The one above was built in 1983 and is, as the next photo of its front yard shows, literally on the north shore of Lake Erie.
